Stabbing Suspect Captured

The suspect in a Houston County homicide has been captured after a massive day-long man-hunt to find the person accused of killing a Gordon resident.

For the first time in more than two years officers responded to a homicide call in Gordon Friday night.

The call came in at 11:45 PM from a house and officers were on the scene within minutes. Houston County Sheriff's Office Investigator Bill Rafferty said, "We responded to a call of a stabbing in Gordon on the corner of 81 and 95."

When officers arrived on the scene they found eleven Hispanic males living in the house.

Roommates told police both the suspect and victim had been drinking heavily when a fight broke out between the two.

"When EMS arrived the victim was deceased with injuries from multiple stab wounds," said Rafferty.

K-9 units and a helicopter were called to the scene to search for the suspect, Cenobia Martinez Sanchez, but he was never found.

Then just before noon on Saturday a tip came in that Sanchez had been spotted, a three hour man hunt was conducted searching for Martinez, but again he eluded police.

Officer Rafferty said, "It's important we locate him he's committed a crime and we're gonna do everything we can to catch him for committing this crime, which is murder."

Investigators arrested Sanchez on Highway 95 south in Gordon.

Officer Rafferty says Martinez has only lived in the Gordon area for two weeks and been working in the area for one week.

Houston and Dale Counties along with Taylor and Webb police and sheriffs department assisted with the search.

Sanchez is booked into the Houston County Jail with no bond.
