In just a few weeks emergency responders in one Wiregrass county will have a new home and most of the tab will be picked-up by the federal government.
Geneva Mayor Karen Simmons, along with rescue crewmembers broke ground for the new facility Wednesday.
The new fully equipped state-of-the-art building will be located across from the old Van Huesen Sewing Factory along Commerce Street.
The current facility has to be replaced because it interferes with the U.S. Army Corps' levee restoration project.
The $45,000 in federal replacement money is still short of the cost of the new rescue squad building.
Emergency responders are in the process of trying to raise the rest.
