PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - A Panhandle man suspected of driving drunk is charged with killing a seven-month-old girl when he rear-ended the car of an Alabama family headed to Florida for a beach vacation.
40-year-old Gary Andrew White of Pensacola was charged Monday with DUI manslaughter in Saturday's death of Chloe Collar.
Two breath tests showed he had a blood alcohol content of .94 percent and .86 percent, according to a police report.
The legal limit for a driver is .08 percent in Florida.
Christopher and Danielle Collar were traveling from Birmingham to Perdido Key when White struck their car from behind, police said.
Although Chloe was strapped in a child-safety seat, the impact was too severe.
22-year-old Danielle Collar fractured her pelvis in three places. Her husband suffered a concussion and has little recollection of the crash and the ambulance ride to the hospital.
White is being held in Escambia County, Florida, Jail on 101,000 dollars bail.
An assistant state attorney said White had two previous DUI cases.
