Slocomb Gets 100k Grant

The City of Slocomb will soon have some extra cash to help expand its critical police, fire and emergency services.

On Wednesday, Slocomb mayor, Vickie Moore, accepted a grant for $100,000. The money which was made available by the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, through an appropriation by the state legislature, will go toward expanding the police and fire department's. This is something that city and state officials agree is long overdue.

"It's been tough to work... a small department like ours that has six officers, basically working out of two rooms, for the past couple of years," said Chief David Land, of the Slocomb Police Department.

The City of Slocomb will receive the $100,000 grant within the next several weeks.
