WASHINGTON (AP) - The relocation of Army Contracting Command and Expeditionary Contracting Command headquarters from Virginia to Alabama has been announced.

The Army said Thursday that the commands from Fort Belvoir, Va., are expected to move to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville by August 2011.

The move will mean reassignments for 79 soldiers and 234 civilians.

Headquarters, Army Contracting Command provides global contracting support to combatant commanders, while Headquarters, Expeditionary Contracting Command plans and executes contracting support for Army service.

Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions said he is delighted with the announcement and it further proves that Alabama maintains a strong position in national defense.
