HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - A second West Virginia teenager has died of injuries suffered in an accident in southeast Alabama as he and four other recent high school graduates were returning home from a trip to Florida.
Dan Gleason says his 18-year-old nephew, Bobby Gleason, died Friday night at Saint Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.
Doctors at Flowers Hospital in Dothan had taken Gleason off a respirator last week after he failed to show response to stimulus.
But on Tuesday, Gleason opened his eyes and later was able to squeeze his mother's hand, according to his parents.
He was transported to Huntington last Thursday.
The teens attended Huntington High School. They were returning from a trip to Panama City, Florida.
A van carrying the group collided with a car on June 10th near Opp, killing 18-year-old Chris Withers.
The three other teens in the van were treated and hospitals and released.
