Two veteran Panhandle law enforcement officers have been suspended with pay pending the outcome of an investigation.
Bonifay Mayor Fred Howell took the action after a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation indicated police training records had been falsified.
The report indicates that Assistant Chief Joseph Sallas admitted to falsifying records in order to keep department officers from losing certification.
Sallas and long-time Chief Ronnie Bennett are suspended.
The state investigation began with the department's suspension of officer Steven Lee last year.
The Bonifay city council will meet next Monday to discuss the suspensions of Chief Bennett, and Assistant Chief Sallas.
