Two Florida teens are in police custody after a Marianna gas station was robbed and a clerk was shot in the head. There may be two, even three more suspects on the run.
Marianna Police held an afternoon press conference and News 4 was there.
"It's really getting crazy, and here, this used to be such a peaceful town. It's scary that you can't even go somewhere or you might get robbed," says Vic Dewitte.
Dewitte has lived in Marianna for 20 years and works on a car at his auto repair shop he took over in January.
It’s been a good year for his business, but what he didn't count on is the BP near his shop getting robbed. "This happens right across the street from me, I might get robbed," he says.
According to police, two teens, 17-year-old Greenwood, Florida Resident Yasin McCoy and 17-year-old Marianna Florida Resident Kyle Merrit walked in to the gas station with a gun and demanded money.
While trying to give it to them, police say Merrit pulled the trigger and shot the clerk, 22-year-old Tyler Daniels in the head.
Both suspects ran behind the gas station where the money from the store, and other items were found near the railroad track.
"Recently, we haven't had any. But this could possibly be one of the most serious robberies we've had in a long time," says Marianna Police Chief Lou Roberts.
Authorities were searching for one other suspect, but there maybe more.
"We've recovered the firearm; they're probably going to have very little contact with law enforcement or the community," continued Roberts.
Still, Dewitte is going to take precautions. "I'm going to get extra locks and watch who comes around. You can't trust anybody because you never know who might show up," he said.
Tyler is in a Dothan hospital and his dad tells police his condition is improving.
Police say they know who the other suspects are, it's just a matter of finding where they are.
