State Health Department officials will divide up the money regionally. Advisory committees in each region will then decide how to further allocate it among specific facilities.

The federal government has given out money for hospital preparedness for three years in a row. The money is meant to help buy equipment and pay for training and planning. It could also be used for emergency increases in bed capacity if there were a mass casualty event or a major infectious disease outbreak.
