Houston County Courthouse Annex Fire

A reward is now being offered to help catch whoever tried to burn down the Houston County Courthouse Annex early Monday morning.

Firefighters were on the scene within minutes and damage to the building was minimal, but the flames destroyed an x-ray machine used to scan purses and brief cases as part of the courthouse security system.

People entering the building Tuesday had to be screened by hand and lines backed-up because the process took longer. Crews worked throughout the night to clean up the mess caused by the fire, and were still on the job while cases were being heard in court.

Police said gasoline was used to start three separate fires, and they are hot on the heels of whoever was responsible.

Investigators said they're still running down leads in the case. If you know who is responsible for the fires, contact Crimestoppers at 793-7000.
