BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) - A Bessemer-based Marine Reserve unit has been called to active duty. Member of the Anti-Terrorism Battalion, 4th Marine Division, are preparing to deploy to Iraq in the fall.
A spokesman said the unit will depart Saturday to undergo three months of training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Approximately 35 of the mobilized Marines come from Alabama - other unit members are based at sites in Mississippi, Florida and Massachusetts.
The spokesman said the unit will deploy sometime in late September for a seven month assignment in the volatile Al Anbar province.
