Organizers said Tutu will speak at the Davis Theater on June 15.
The Reverend James Webb of Montgomery's Church of the Anvil said the archbishop agreed to help raise money to buy shoes for children from poor families.
The project called "Little soles for little souls" hopes to buy one-thousand pairs of shoes for children in Alabama and 1,000 pairs for youngsters in South Africa.
Webb said church leaders have learned that hundreds of families can't afford to purchase shoes for their children when they return to school in the fall.
General admission tickets to the event are $10.
