The Salvation Army is out in full force, making sure everyone in the wiregrass has a happy holiday.

This year 1600 local families need the organization's help.

"This money not only helps us for the entire year, but it funds the Christmas Season we are in now. The need for social services and help in the Wiregrass area has definitely increased. Not only from last year, but previous years. With the economy being how it is, the people in the Wiregrass are still being very helpful to us. Our goal is still up there though" said Lt. Jonathan Howell of The Salvation Army.

That goal is $155,000- $10,000 more than last year.

Meanwhile there are 400 "angels" who still need to be adopted.

"These Angels are not just paper angels we hang on a tree. Each angel really is a kid so put pitch right now is that we would love each person out there to come out and grab an angel" said Lt. Howell.

Area schools, businesses, and churches have done their part to help the Salvation Army. You can find an Angel tree at Carmike Cinema, the Wiregrass Commons Mall and at the Cochran Firm. It's the first year they have decided to put the angel tree in their lobby.

"I think it was my wife's idea, but I agree it’s a good one. Its heart warming to know that the children you are helping are the ones who need it and this is a special time of need. A lot of people are out a job and need the help. They are in situations they didn't ask to be in and certainly their kid's didn't" said Attorney Samuel A. Cherry, Jr. from the Cochran Firm.

The deadline to adopt an angel is December 12th.

Salvation Army officers and volunteers will be at the peanut festival fairgrounds getting toys and canned goods ready for distribution on December 18th.

If you would like to adopt an angel, you can stop by the Wiregrass Commons Mall, the Cochran Firm, or Carmike Cinemas to pick one up; or you can donate food, money or a toy by calling the Salvation Army office.

That number is 792-1911.
