Washington County Deals with Small Damage from Rain
Several roads are closed in Washington County because of heavy rainfall this morning and last night. Public safety officials say they were preparing for worse than what they got. Washington County received a total of 4 to 5 inches of rain but that amount was enough to do some damage.

It was a close call for Washington County.
Recent rainfall caused the Choctawhatchee River to go up to over thirteen feet.
The level was 7 feet before the rain.
"We don't have a lot of problems until we get above 15 feet. 16 feet will cause our DOC work camp to have concerns" says Roger Hagan, Public Safety Director of Washington County.
Some homeowners in Washington County had their concerns Wednesday.
There have not been any reports of major flooding inside homes, but many residents' yards were flooded trees were knocked down and so were street signs.
"We had some power outages at our public works department for a while but they are back on now. They city of Wausau and the city of Vernon had some power outages also but they were temporary. We had some leaks in our government annex building- nothing significant but some wet tiles from the rain and wind” says Hagan.
Several dirt roads in the county have collected a lot of water. Public safety officials say even if a dirt road is not closed, you need to drive with caution because it could still be dangerous.
"If you have water crossing a road, please do not drive through it. You never know if there is a hole there, if the culvert is missing, a bridge is missing, or something else might sweep you away" says Hagan.
Washington County received FEMA money from rain damage in the spring of this year to help repair certain areas.
This rain was not nearly as bad, but it may have loosened dirt and disrupted some work in progress.
Public safety officials say they are expecting cold temperatures and wind tonight so it is important that you secure any loose articles in your backyard and take care of those animals and plants.
They do not expect there to be any more problems from the rain.
Some roads that remain closed in Washington County include Car Road, Old Bonifay Road, pleas circle, Bahama Road, Ben Road, and Ledger Road.
