The 911 call came in just after three in the morning. The fire quickly consumed the home, leaving 23-year-old Brad Strickland dead.

The severe and gloomy weather outside matched the mood of officials Wednesday morning as they looked into the death of a 23-year-old man.

Dale County Sheriff Wally Olsen said, “Around 3:16 this morning we received a 911 call of a house fire on Co. Rd, 59 near the Asbury Community.”

The house was quickly fully engulfed in flames and officials worked to put out the fire.

Olsen said, “The weather was horrendous with the rain and light wind and cold, but we had a good turn out from fire and rescue to put out the fire.”

Emergency units from Skipperville, Choctahatchee and Echo Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.

Fire marshals are looking into the cause of the fire, which is an investigation that will take longer than usual because of the weather that moved through the area.

Olsen added, “You have to go in and break the residence down and go through each area of the residence to determine where the fire began.”

The body is being sent to Montgomery for an autopsy to rule out the possibility of foul play.

Right now, officials say they don't expect foul play, but need confirmation from the state to help them continue their investigation.

The home was in the process of being remodeled at the time of the fire.

American Red Cross has stepped in to help the remaining family who now do not have a place to call home.
