ENTERPRISE, Ala. (AP) - Two Alabama high school seniors who died when a tornado wiped out their school in March were remembered by their classmates Thursday night.
Two chairs on the football field at Enterprise High School were left empty during graduation ceremonies in memory of 17-year old Michael Tompkins and 17-year old Jamie Ann Vidensek. On the seats were the caps and gowns they would have worn, along with their diplomas.
A message read by two valedictorians said, quote, "To Jamie and Mikey, we wish you were here. We will carry your memory with us forever."
The two were among eight students killed when a hallway collapsed.
One senior told those attending the ceremony, "We know they aren't here with us physically, but mentally they are here and they are in our hearts."
