The Alabama victim's compensation programs are getting a multimillion dollar federal grant.
The $8.3 million allocation comes from the federal Office of Victims of Crime. The money will be used to reimburse crime victims for medical, mental health, funeral and other expenses connected to the crime and provides for lost wages and loss of support.
The state's Crime Victims Compensation Commission manages the program. The grant for the 2004 fiscal year will be available for use until 2007 to assist victims of rape, drunk driving, child abuse, domestic violence and other crimes.
The money is Alabama's share of $621.3 million given to all states for similar programs.
