Police are still investigating a shooting in Northwest Florida. They are trying to determine whether it was murder or self-defense.
Around three o'clock Sunday morning, authorities responded to a call of an accidental shooting at a home on Fourth Street in Chipley.
They found Billy Michael McMillan lying in a hallway. He had a gunshot wound to the chest from a 22-caliber pistol. He later died from his injuries.
Initially, the deceased man's girlfriend, Renee Konstantinos, said McMillan was attempting to show her how to load the weapon when it went off. But, she later said she killed him in fear for her life.
In March, the 47-year-old McMillan was released from the Jackson correctional facility in Marianna, after serving four months for domestic battery.
Miss Konstantinos has not been charged and McMillan’s body has been sent to the Bay County Medical Examiner's Office in Panama City for an autopsy.
