The city of Abbeville can soon expect to see some changes to the local airport; thanks to help from the U.S Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administrations.
Abbeville has been awarded $450,000 federal grant to purchase additional land to extend the runway of the Abbeville Municipal Airport.
The new plans will make the airport capable of handling both jet aircraft as well as twin engine propeller driven aircraft.
The funds were awarded under the airport improvement program.
The City of Geneva has also been awarded a federal grant to help with improvements to the Geneva Airport runway.
The more than $226,000 will be used to provide grading for the runway safety area and remove obstruction in the airport's approach airspace.
