The first part of a long anticipated Downtown Geneva sidewalk project has gotten underway.
Construction crews are busy tearing out 60-year-old pavement at the intersection of Commerce Street and Town Avenue.
This is the first of a three-phase project to return Downtown Geneva to its original look.
A state grant is paying half of the several hundred thousand dollar price tags. Light poles will also be installed.
"Geneva is a beautiful small town. So many towns have fallen on hard times, here you see folks that love it and volunteer. They do what they can to get involved," said Marian Wynn of Geneva Historical Society.
This first phase of the sidewalk project is expected to be completed in mid-August.
