ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say three Florida Highway Patrol troopers are recovering after being hit by a drunk driver who slammed into the scene of a fatal accident.
FHP says troopers Rhonda Hendee, Gregory Taylor and Eugene Lebrenz suffered broken bones, sprains and other injuries as a result of the Saturday night crash in St. Petersburg, but none appeared to be life threatening.
The troopers had closed two lanes of a highway to investigate a fatal motorcycle crash. They had used their patrol cars with emergency lights on to block off the scene as well as flares and cones.
FHP says Robert Taylor swerved to avoid slower traffic and lost control, slamming into the crash scene.
He was treated at the hospital for minor injuries. Jail records show he was later arrested on three counts of DUI with serious bodily injury and two counts of DUI with property damage.
