The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has issued a final report in the March fatal shootout of a Bonifay man. After a brief standoff at his Bonifay home, 40-year-old Dwight McWaters was killed in a hail of gunfire.
Earlier that day, McWaters shot Bonifay police officer Steven Lee six-times. Lee was responding to a domestic violence call at the time.
Holmes County Sheriff Department Sergeant Chris Wells says the report matches the findings of local agencies. Under the circumstances, the fatal shooting of McWaters was justifiable.
Officer Lee reportedly is making quick recovery from his wounds and is expected to be back on the job in a couple of months.
