An inmate who killed a man after escaping from the Covington County Jail has been sentenced to die for the crime.
Bobby Phillips was convicted in March of killing Paul Lemaster in 2002.
Phillips and Oscar Doster escaped from the Covington County Jail in November of that year.
Lemaster was shot to death and his pick-up truck was stolen the next day.
Doster has already been convicted and sentenced to die for his part in the crime.
Jurors unanimously recommended the death penalty for Phillips.
Judge Lex Short followed that recommendation Wednesday afternoon.
