PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - A former Navy Blue Angels' pilot has returned to fill the slot held by a pilot killed at a South Carolina air show.
Commander Kevin Mannix, the team's squadron commander, says Lieutenant Commander Craig Olson, 37, of Kirkland, Washington will practice with the team for several weeks before joining an air show performances.
Olson flew with the Blue Angels from 2003 to 2005.
Mannix made the comments as the team finished an afternoon practice at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The team is scheduled to perform its first air show there Saturday since the death of Lieutenant Commander Kevin Davis, 32.
Davis was killed last month when his number six F/A-18A Hornet went down during the final minutes of a performance at Marine Corps.
