You will have to take an alternate route around Elba today because the Pea River Bridge at U.S. Highway 84 East will be closed.
Work crews will be installing a floodgate at the bridge. It’s the last major work in the two-year, $12 million levee restoration project.
Motorists are advised to avoid the areas adjacent to the bridge because they will be congested with heavy equipment.
Detour signs are expected to be posted on state roads.
The contractor says Highway 84 into Elba should re-open to traffic at six o'clock Thursday night.
