TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Officials are saying wildfire conditions in Florida are considered critical because parts of the state are dry and winds are gusty.
Those comments came today as state officials were monitoring a large fire on the east coast and a smaller fire in the Panhandle forced evacuations.
A spokesman for the state Division of Forestry says about 20 homes near Freeport in Walton County in the Panhandle were evacuated this morning as a 300-acre fire threatened the neighborhood.
Causing the most concern was a large 6,100 acre fire about 4 miles west of Ormond Beach on Florida's east coast.
So far, no injuries have been reported in any of the fires.
