Pledge of Allegiance

The Okaloosa County Florida School Board has turned down a request to stop kids from saying the Pledge of Allegiance in classrooms.

Two parents stood alone Monday in urging the board to banish the Pledge.

They argued that a state law requiring public school children to recite the Pledge every day amounts to forced religious indoctrination.

School Superintendent Don Gaetz said the school district is required to follow the law.

It allows any student abstain from saying the Pledge with written permission from a parent or guardian.
