EUFAULA, Ala. (AP) - The first of several planned deployment ceremonies for Alabama National Guard units getting ready for duty overseas will be held today in Eufaula.
Soldiers assigned to the 1103rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion will be honored this afternoon at the Farmers Market Pavilion. The ceremony starts at 3 p-m.
The unit and its 75 troops were among six Guard units called to active duty last week. Its the second time since October 2002 that the 1103rd has deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Major General A-C Blalock, Commander of the 167th Theater Sustainment Command in Birmingham, will address the troops. Members
of the 1103rd will depart for Fort Hood, Texas, early next week for additional training.
