More people are trying to make a few bucks harvesting pecans.

Workers at Shute Pecan Company say more people are bringing in a pecan harvest.

They say that's because more people are looking at ways to make a little extra during this tight economy.

Unfortunately, those harvesting say the yields are down this season mainly due to excessive rain this summer and fall

“Our yields are not what they have been in the past two years. Normally, we have excellent yields with good crops we were affected with the rains and the moisture,” said Jean Shute, Shute Pecan Company.

Workers say they have also heard reports of more pecan thefts in the area this year.
