Ruling on Police Lieutenant's Grievance

A Dothan police lieutenant, who claims he's been unfairly treated, learned his fate today at a personnel board hearing.

Earlier this month Lt. Duane Herring filed a grievance, claiming that a change in his work schedule, the relocation of his office, and a poor performance evaluation, were the result of retaliation on behalf of high ranking officials within the Dothan Police Department.

Herring lost his grievance, but his complaint is forcing the department to take a closer look at its evaluation procedures.

Board members also recommended the police department provide monthly reports about what's being done to improve the evaluation process, so situations like this can be avoided in the future.
