New Brockton Mayor Lenwood Herron is calling Friday the beginning of a "path called progress".
Land is being cleared to open Dollar General, the first commercial store along the Highway 84 corridor in New Brockton.
Last night the town council unanimously voted to rezone 580 acres of agriculture land around the highway to commercial land, including the site for the Dollar General.
"You’re going to see this kind of development as well as more kind of development coming across this corridor in New Brockton and the folks are very excited about it,” says Herron.
Herron says the rezoning will make way for 40 years worth of development along the corridor.
