The Enterprise City Hall is getting stronger storm protection.

The Enterprise City Hall will soon see some renovations, but these changes aren't just cosmetic.

If a strong storm were to hit City Hall today, the entire front panel of windows would be completely blown out.

“This is the operational command center for the city in the event that an emergency were to occur during bad weather or any other situation that were to occur so we want to do anything we can possible do to be able to stay open at all times and be able to serve our citizens at a maximum capacity,” says mayor Kenneth Boswell.

“the whole storefront will come out we'll come back with glass that's 150 mile an hour wind resistant, impact resistant glass throughout the building. The precast stone all the way around the building will come out completely,” says Ray Bickley in the Enterprise Engineering Department.

The roof also needs some work to withstand at least an F2 tornado.

So it's also getting an upgrade with a new acoustical tile ceiling and new lighting to compliment the glass.

The project is being funded by a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant for $362,000 with a 25% match from the city.

The bids came in $84,000 under budget, so now the city council is considering an addition to the project.

“For example, for the tinting of the glass that would literally allow us to save money for the citizens through power bills,” says Boswell.

That change will have to be approved by FEMA.

Work should begin in two weeks and has to be completed by the end of May.
