GRENADA, Miss. (AP) - Georgia-Pacific Corp. has curtailed operations at a north Mississippi plant and laid off 80 people.
G-P spokeswoman Melodie Ruse told The Associated Press on Tuesday the company hopes the plant in Grenada can reopen in less than six months.
The plant manufactures oriented strand board, which is a reconstituted wood board used in place of plywood in construction.
Ruse said the Atlanta-based company closed the plant because of market conditions.
Workers were told about the layoffs Monday. Ruse said a few remain on the job.
The plant was built in 1985.
Georgia-Pacific also operates a plant near Blakely, GA.
