Sales Tax Holiday No More

A popular shopping incentive has been dropped by the State of Florida.

The sales tax holiday was created in the late 1990's to give parents a chance to buy clothes, shoes and supplies for school, at a savings.

It took place just before the start of the new school year. But, Florida House and Senate lawmakers couldn't agree on how to run the program.

Several officials say the tax-free holiday was stopped because of lost revenue in the aftermath of Sept. 11.

Florida retailers are criticizing the move. They've traditionally seen a boost in sales during the tax-free week.
