The new $50 bill is getting a patriotic makeover.
The redesigned bill features splashes of red, white and blue in addition to the traditional black-ink fronts and green-ink backs. It's part of an effort to make U.S. currency harder to counterfeit.
The extra colors are subtle and similar to the look of the new $20 bill, which went into circulation last fall with new touches of peach, blue and yellow.
As he revealed the bill, Treasury Secretary John Snow said in addition to foiling counterfeiters, it's also a "lovely piece of currency."
The new $50 bill is the same size as the traditional one and still features Ulysses S. Grant on the front and the U.S. Capitol building on the back.
