In a special called meeting of the Geneva County Commission yesterday, Probate Judge Harry Adkison brought up the tax proposal.
Adkison says by tacking on slightly more than a penny, the cost of garbage collection would be covered. It would eliminate solid waste fees paid by more than 4,000 businesses and residents within Geneva County.
Over the last few years, the county has filed criminal action against people who haven't paid their garbage bills.
The judge says the tax would eliminate that hassle, but the commission did not take action on the issue. Next Monday, the matter is once again expected to be discussed.
