Air-Conditioning Thefts

A former Pike County public school employee is free on $5,000 bond after being charged with stealing at least 50 central air-conditioning units.

Forty-three-year-old Timothy Dwayne Spivey is charged with first-degree theft of property involving the units, which had been bought for classrooms and administrative buildings.

Spivey, who resigned this week as maintenance supervisor for county schools, is accused of ordering the units, billing them to the system and then selling them through his own air conditioning company to home owners and business owners.

The buyers have been assured that the units will not be removed during the hottest part of the summer.
