According to Phyllis Kennedy, director of the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations, the figure represents approximately 127,600 unemployed Alabamians.

Nationally the unemployment rate in March also increased to 5.7-percent, that's compared to 5.6-percent in February.

Washington County recorded the highest jobless rate at 15-percent.

Wilcox and Lowndes counties were second and third, respectively, with each recording unemployment rates in excess of 13-percent.

Shelby County's rate of 2.2-percent was the lowest among the 67 counties.
