A piece of Elba’s historic downtown was torn down Friday.
The old Clark Denist building had been a fixture on the westside of the square for nearly a century.
Several months ago, the building was condemned because of structural problems.
It resulted in the city closing a portion of the road outside the building to traffic.
Over recent years, the two-story Brownstone was used as storage space for a furniture company.
Several merchants say it was a shame to see the structure come down; it's understandable because of the safety issue.
