Double Murder in Panama City Beach

Sheriff deputies continue to investigate a double murder in Panama City Beach.

They're also searching a campsite at the Sand Pond Recreation Area in Washington County.

Officers said James and Phyllis Shane were found dead from gunshot wounds at their home on Dade Street in Panama City Beach Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies suspected their grandson, Christopher Scott Shane, murdered the couple and they issued a warrant for his arrest.

Officers believe money was the motive for the killing. A few hours later, deputies found Shane at a campsite in the Sand Pond Recreation Area off Highway 79 in Washington County.

He was found near a truck and camper stolen from his grandparents and was holding a semi-automatic shotgun.

After the officers identified themselves, Shane pointed his weapon at them. Shane was shot and killed by two SWAT Team members.

Washington County Sheriff Deputies assisted in the search.
