MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Senate today approved a 32 million appropriation to rebuild two tornado-ravaged schools in Enterprise.
The appropriation still must go to the House for approval and be signed by the governor.
It would be the largest amount ever approved by the Legislature to replace schools destroyed by a natural disaster.
Enterprise School Superintendent Jim Reese said combining the state funding with insurance payments and FEMA funds should allow Enterprise to rebuild an elementary school and high school that will be larger than the buildings destroyed by a tornado on March first.
The tornado killed eight students at the high school and one other person at a home in Enterprise.
