But there is a program for area schools that aims to stops incidents like those, and to prevent violent behavior all together.
Over the last two years prevention specialists with Spectracare have been visiting classrooms in five Wiregrass counties to help children learn about their feelings.
The program is called Second Step.
Through music, books and other fun activities, students in pre-K through 6th grades are taught how to get along with and empathize with others.
They're lessons kindergarteners at Tompkins Early Childhood Center in Ozark enjoy.
