The Defense Department confirmed that soldiers from Jefferson County and Lee County were killed Sunday.
Twenty-four-year-old Specialist Ahmed Cason and 25-year-old Specialist Stephen D. "Dusty" Hiller died in Baghdad.
They served with the Army's Second Battalion, 5th Calvary Regiment based at Fort Hood, Texas.
The Department of Defense says the unit came under attack with rocket propelled grenades and small arms fire.
