Homeland Security Grant Money

This week the fire department got the go ahead to begin spending $1.1 million in Homeland Security grant money. It will cover everything from new Haz-Mat vehicles to protective suits and a mobile oxygen system.

The department already handles Haz-Mat scenes in the city, but now they'll be able to train more of their employees. That will give them the ability to handle multiple scenes at the same time.

The new equipment should begin arriving within the next month. The department can use it on a daily basis, not just for Homeland Security issues.
