Corporal Dwight Grooms today received Alabama's officer of the year award from Attorney General Troy King.

Grooms and investigator Dexter Hammond responded after a Henry County deputy was shot by a gunman earlier this year.

Hammond was killed by the gunman but grooms continued to provided cover fire for the wounded deputy until back-up officers shot and killed the gunman.
