The Houston County Sheriff's Department is getting new handguns.
The Houston County Commission has approved a request by Sheriff Lamar Glover to submit a bid proposal for 60 .357 semi-automatic pistols.
For years the sheriff's deputies have been furnishing their own pistols which cost anywhere from $350 to $600. Officials say this is quite a burden for officers to bear.
The handguns will be the same size that Dothan police officers use, but a different caliber.
Once the county decides on the lowest bidder, the new handguns will be in operation.
