The House Government Finance and Appropriations Committee approved bills that would increase fees on outdoor advertising and for obtaining a driving record from the state.

The committee also approved bills to change the way the state's lodgings tax is distributed and to suspend driver's licenses, hunting licenses and professional licenses of people who have not paid court fines or fees.

The bills are expected to raise about $15.8 million for the General Fund budget, which is expected to have a deficit of more than $300 million.

Representative John Knight, chairman of the General Fund budget writing committee, said his panel had been working on the governor's proposals for weeks and their passing today had nothing to do with the criticism from Riley.
