The Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta was evacuated late Thursday afternoon as officials investigated a suspicious package that was mailed to the state department of transportation and contained an unknown powder.
Authorities removed the package from the building Thursday night.
Lawmakers were sent home after a mailroom employee developed a rash after handling the package.
That employee and 12 other mailroom workers were stripped of their clothing, dressed in paper suits and transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
The Atlanta Police Bomb Squad Unit then sent in a robot, which x-rayed the package and found there were no explosives inside.
After it was removed from the building, the package was taken to a lab for examination.
