Enterprise Inmate Disturbance During Tornado

The Coffee County Sheriff's Department stayed busy controlling an inmate disturbance following the killer tornado that struck Enterprise.

Sheriff Dave Sutton said at Monday's Coffee County Commission meeting that his department is in desperate need of five additional deputies.

Sheriff Sutton says the manpower was needed when several inmates refused to go back into their cells.

Following a brief standoff with correctional officers, authorities, with the help of other inmates were able to defuse the confrontation without injury.

Sheriff Dave Sutton says, "Some of the cell doors we could not get to lock down. It led to some tense moments, but we have, and will continue to work on to get the prisoners to lock down."

The commission agreed to spend several thousand dollars in repairing cell doors at the jail.
