Defense attorneys say a Houston County man on trial for murder did not intentionally kill the victim.
Forty-seven-year-old Harold Corbitt of Cottonwood is accused of killing 22-year-old Christopher Whittle. The incident happened last year outside a Dothan nightclub.
The defense claims Whittle was beating his wife when Corbitt tried to intervene. Whittle and his brother-in-law allegedly turned on Corbitt and attacked him.
Corbitt grabbed a shotgun from his truck, but defense attorney Jim Parkman says his client fell down while backing away. Parkman claims the gun fired accidentally while the two men were kicking Corbitt.
Whittle was shot in the side and later pronounced dead at a Dothan hospital.
